What We Treat – Family Issues
Families can be challenging, but therapy can help you navigate your thoughts, feelings, and boundaries.

At some or another, you will most likely have a family issue come up. From communication issues, to cultural differences, to abuse, to blending a family, to divorce, to any major change within a family.
One of the big challenges many face with families is setting boundaries once becoming an adult. There might be times where your parents are still telling you what you should do when you yourself are a parent, or an in-law showing up at your house unannounced quite often, or maybe your parents haven’t discussed the difficult trauma you all faced from years ago, etc.
All of these tend to center around learning how to set boundaries with family. It’s common for people to sometimes feel a sense of guilt in setting boundaries with family either because you care for them or because you feel you have to because it’s family.
Still, regardless if someone is family or not, boundaries are important. Learning why they’re important, how to set them, and handling the moment when someone won’t accept it is where therapy can help.
Whether you decide to do family therapy with a few people or decide to do one on one therapy, both can be beneficial. Deciding which option is best will be determined once you speak with our Intake Clinicians so they can better direct you to which service would be most helpful.
It’s important to note that family issues are common. It doesn’t mean someone has a diagnosis, but many times it can be about unresolved trauma, miscommunications, and relationships that lack boundaries.
