What We Treat – Bullying

Your child doesn’t need to deal with bullying alone.

Serenium services

Children and teens of any age are at risk for bullying, but it can also happen to adults in the workplace as well and increase into abuse. Bullying over the years has increased from being something done in person to now including cyberbullying online as well from social media to texting.

Some signs a child might be bullied include changes in behavior that may include unexplainable injuries, lost or destroyed items, feeling sick with headaches, stomach aches, or even faking an illness, skipping lunch to avoid certain people, challenges with sleeping, loss of friends, decrease in schoolwork, decreased self-esteem and in more extreme cases, self-destructive behaviors.

Supported Data

Many times, kids won’t ask for help with a bully as it can feel embarrassing or they might feel as though the bully would retaliate.

It’s common for kids to experience negative mental and emotional health issues that could affect them now and later on in life such as depression and anxiety.

But what if you find out that your child is the bully? It’s common for kids who bully to also engage in violent and other behaviors that showcase elements of risk that can continue into adulthood. Those things can include alcohol or drug abuse, engaging in fights and vandalizing property, or even being abusive to future romantic partners or children.

However, although unsettling, bullying is a common life event many go through at some point in time. Having a therapist who can either work with your child or even in family therapy can provide insight into what is happening and to resolve it while also finding the right ways to improve their mental and emotional well-being. Bullying can many times turn into abusive behavior over time, and so it’s important to intervene early.

At Serenium we envision a world where there is mental and emotional wellness for all and we’re on a deeper mission to provide people the mental and emotional support needed to cultivate their well-being through all of life’s events.
