What We Treat – Anxiety

At Serenium Wellness, we believe that mental and emotional well-being are as vital as physical health. Just as we care for our bodies, nurturing our minds and emotions is essential. Anxiety, a common yet often misunderstood experience, can be a signal from our inner selves prompting us to seek balance and harmony.
What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or perceived threats. It’s our body’s way of alerting us to potential challenges. While occasional anxiety is a part of life, persistent and overwhelming feelings may indicate an anxiety disorder. Recognizing this is the first step toward regaining equilibrium.
Common Signs of Anxiety
Anxiety manifests uniquely in each individual, but common symptoms include:
- Persistent Worry: Ongoing concerns that are difficult to control.
- Restlessness: Feeling on edge or unable to relax.
- Fatigue: Unexplained tiredness or low energy.
- Difficulty Concentrating: Trouble focusing or a blank mind.
- Irritability: Heightened sensitivity or frustration.
- Sleep Disturbances: Trouble falling or staying asleep.
Physical symptoms might also occur, such as increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, or digestive issues.
It’s important to remember that self-diagnosis does not mean you have anxiety. Speaking with a clinical professional will help determine if you do have a diagnosis and if medication is necessary. Many of our clients don’t need medication and some come to find they are not diagnosed with anxiety but rather having common stressful or overwhelming feelings due to life events they need to work through. No matter what you’re feeling, we’re here to help.
What Are Panic Attacks?
Sometimes, anxiety builds to a point where it causes sudden, intense physical and emotional reactions known as panic attacks. These can feel overwhelming and even frightening, especially if you’re not sure what’s happening.
A panic attack may come on without warning and can include symptoms such as:
- Rapid heartbeat or chest tightness
- Shortness of breath or feeling like you can’t breathe
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- A sense of detachment from reality (feeling “unreal” or outside of your body)
- Intense fear, often with a feeling that something terrible is about to happen
Panic attacks can happen to anyone—even those who don’t typically experience chronic anxiety and can even wake you in the middle of the night. They may be triggered by a stressful event, a crowded space, or sometimes, seemingly nothing at all. While they are not dangerous, they can be very distressing. The good news is, they are treatable and manageable with the right support and tools.

Variety of Treatment Options Available
Our team of therapists each have a unique blend of evidence-based practices and holistic therapies to address anxiety and panic. Each therapist and each client is different and together, you will discover which treatments work best for your mental and emotional well-being. (To view all of our treatments and which therapists are qualified to do what, check out our Find a Therapist page.) Some treatments may include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To identify and reframe negative thought patterns.
- Mindfulness and Meditation: To cultivate present-moment awareness and reduce stress.
- Somatic Techniques: To connect with and release physical manifestations of anxiety.
- Creative Therapies: Such as art or music therapy, to express and process emotions.
By offering these modalities and options, we aim to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We recognize the importance of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in the healing process. Our therapists are committed to creating an environment where all individuals feel seen, heard, and respected. We collaborate with you, honoring your values and experiences, to foster a therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect.
