What We Treat – ADD and ADHD

At Serenium Wellness, we believe that mental and emotional well-being are as vital as physical health. Just as we care for our bodies, nurturing our minds and emotions is essential. It’s important to note that you should never self-diagnose for ADD or ADHD; instead, speak with a licensed mental health professional in New Jersey to understand more.
For some individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or ADD, it can feel like moments of distraction or bursts of energy that impact focus, relationships, emotional well-being, and daily functioning. Whether you’re navigating symptoms yourself or supporting a loved one, we’re here to help in the way you need with personalized ADHD therapy.
What is ADD or ADHD?
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. It’s characterized by ongoing patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning, relationships, and academic or professional performance.
You may also hear the term “ADD (Attention-Deficit Disorder),” which traditionally referred to individuals who experience inattention without hyperactivity. Today, ADD is considered a presentation of ADHD known as ADHD, Predominantly Inattentive Type—commonly seen in women and adults who are often underdiagnosed.
What Are the Common Symptoms of ADD & ADHD?
Symptoms of ADHD in children and adults can vary depending on age, environment, and personality. While each person is different, here are some of the most frequently reported signs of inattentive ADHD and hyperactive/impulsive ADHD:
Inattention
- Difficulty focusing on tasks or conversations
- Easily distracted by external stimuli or unrelated thoughts
- Trouble organizing responsibilities or managing time
- Frequently losing items like keys, phones, or paperwork
- Forgetting to follow through on instructions or complete assignments
Hyperactivity & Impulsivity
- Feeling restless or fidgety, even when sitting still is expected
- Talking excessively or interrupting others
- Difficulty waiting turns or managing impatience
- Making impulsive decisions or taking unnecessary risks
- Struggling with emotional regulation and frustration
Does ADD or ADHD Last Forever?
While symptoms often begin in childhood, many individuals are not diagnosed until adulthood. ADHD in adults may show up differently—less physical hyperactivity and more internal restlessness, forgetfulness, or emotional dysregulation. Although ADHD symptoms may evolve over time, they rarely disappear entirely.
It’s important to understand that ADHD is not a sign of laziness or a lack of willpower. With professional ADHD treatment and support, individuals can learn how to manage symptoms and thrive in their personal and professional lives.
We tailor every treatment plan to your individual needs, goals, and strengths—because healing doesn’t look the same for everyone.
